A world of drawings
architects’ production as a mirror and parallel, beyond the office

What layers play a role on a subconscious level in the architect’s mind when designing ? (Can these hidden layers or values be detected at all?) Can they be traced in the medium par excellence with which an architect communicates, namely the architectural drawing? What is the correlation with the construction of a frame of reference ?

This research analyses the production of drawings within an architectural firm. With Italo Calvino as a guide, five underlying themes are highlighted and tested against the world ‘outside the architectural firm’. Disciplines adjacent to architecture, such as photography or literature, hold up a mirror and serve as sparring partners.
